Learning in the Middle School at DLTS is not only guided by our core principles of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience, but also by the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP).
DLTS is a Candidate MYP school. The MYP is a curriculum framework designed for learners aged 11–16 by the International Baccalaureate (IB). This framework acts as a scaffold to deliver the content specified by the Australian Curriculum, and comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents.
Our Middle School courses are exclusively delivered by specialist teachers in the following subject areas:
Language and literature (English and/or Thai) Individuals and societies (Integrating History, Geography, Economics, and Business) Sciences (Integrating Chemistry, Physics and Biology) Mathematics Physical and Health education Language Acquisition (Chinese, Thai or English) Arts (Music, Visual Arts) Design
In addition to these courses, each year, two or more teachers from different subject areas collaborate to create Interdisciplinary Units (IDUs), integrating multiple subjects and allowing students to explore content through a multidisciplinary lens.
Our Candidate MYP challenges students to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and connect learning to real-world contexts. All lessons are designed by expert teachers to challenge students, inspire inquiry, and show connections between their learning and the real world. As part of a comprehensive IB education framework, the MYP is designed to support adolescent learners during a crucial stage of personal and academic development.
At the heart of the MYP are the ten IB Learner Profile attributes, which help students develop core characteristics such as being caring, open-minded, and reflective. The programme also focuses on building future-proof Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, including communication, research, teamwork, self-management, and critical thinking. These skills are systematically taught through tasks, projects, and assessments, equipping students for success in academics and beyond.
Beyond the classroom, the programme encourages students to apply their knowledge to make a positive impact within their school and local communities. Along with regular inquiry, action and reflection related to Community Engagement, the Grade 9 Community Project challenges students to identify real-world issues, develop creative solutions, and share their growth through a presentation to the school community.
DLTS International School is a Candidate School* for the PYP and MYP Programmes. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that DLTS International School believes is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org
