Aug 2024 Edition 2

Greeting from Dr.Matthew Fahey

Head of DLTS International School

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe, but the end of the semester is quickly approaching, and with it comes MAP testing. We know this can be a stressful time for students, but with a little preparation, everyone can do their best. Here are a few tips:

Get a Good Night’s Sleep: A well-rested brain is better equipped to tackle challenges. Make sure to get plenty of sleep before the test.

Eat Well: A nutritious breakfast on the day of the test can help fuel your brain and keep you focused.

Stay Calm: It’s normal to feel a little nervous, but try not to panic. Remember, MAP testing is just one measure of your progress, and your hard work throughout the semester matters most.

I would like to highlight and say congratulations to our amazing robotics team! They recently competed in the World Robotics Olympiad representing the school well with a third place finish. Their desire to compete, combined with their impressive success, has been inspiring. Our students have come a long way in such a short amount of time, showing what dedication and teamwork can achieve.

I encourage all students to get involved in competitions. There is so much that can be learned from competing in a team or competing individually. We offer many opportunities to compete in sports or academics. Please do take advantage of these opportunities.

The semester is nearly over, let’s keep up the momentum, and best of luck to all students sitting MAP tests.

Dear Preschool Parents,

On behalf of the DLTS staff, I wish to extend thanks to all of the families who contributed and participated in our International Fun Day event - it was a tremendous success! We do hope that you enjoyed “traveling around the world” and participating in the wide variety of activities on offer. It was certainly a memorable experience because of all your efforts to coordinate backdrops, costumes, food and activities.

If you haven’t already - remember to sign up for our amazing October camps! During the first two weeks, students will learn about the great outdoors. The second two weeks will be focused on arts and other creative experiences. Both programmes are sure to include academic experiences, as well, to help your child retain the knowledge they’ve gained this semester. Students will also be encouraged to utilize and improve their English skills throughout the camps, while continuing to receive a daily lesson in both Thai and Chinese.

Earlier this month, our Toddler and EY1 students enjoyed a day at the Children’s Discovery Museum. The children enjoyed a variety of interactive exhibits and play spaces designed to stimulate their curiosity and provide unique learning experiences outside of the regular classrooms.

There are some upcoming events to make note of. DLTS will celebrate World Dot Day on Friday, September 20th. We invite you to send your child to school wearing clothing with dots on it. There will be special artistic activities within our lessons to celebrate creativity, individuality and bravery. To celebrate the final day of the semester, on Friday, September 27th, we will have another ‘non-uniform’ day for dressing as “Fantasy Characters” (princess, superhero, mermaid, animal, etc.). More information will be made available soon on Toddle and Line Official.

Greeting from Ms. Rebecca Suangoon

Head of Upper School

Dear Parents,

Last week, our Grade 3 students had a wonderful experience at Pathom Organic Farm. They learned about eco-friendly practices and how to take care of our environment. The students participated in a variety of hands-on activities, including making natural toothpaste, creating desserts, painting with natural colors, and more. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to see sustainability in action.

Meanwhile, our Grade 2 students took their learning outside the classroom with a visit to a local park for a ‘litter pick.’ This activity not only enhanced their understanding of environmental responsibility but also allowed them to contribute to keeping our community clean.

In the coming weeks, we have more exciting field trips planned for Grades 4 and 6. These outings are designed to enrich our students’ learning experiences by providing real-world contexts and opportunities for exploration beyond the classroom.

On Friday, September 20th, we will celebrate DOT Day, a day dedicated to creativity. This year, we’re adding a charitable twist—students are asked to gather up coins to create a collaborative piece of artwork in their class. The money collected will be donated to a local charity, supporting those in need. A special thanks to our Student Council for this fantastic idea!

Next week marks the beginning of MAP testing and end-of-semester exams. This is an important time for our students to demonstrate the progress they have made since the start of the year. It also provides an opportunity for setting new learning goals and for our teaching staff to reflect on the next steps in each student’s learning journey. To help your child perform their best, please ensure they are well-rested and get a good night’s sleep during this period.

Lastly, if you’re still interested in signing your child up for the October Camp, please reach out to us. The camp offers many enriching learning experiences that your child won’t want to miss!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
